One-class SVM for learning in image retrieval

چکیده
Relevance feedback schemes using linear/quadratic estimators have been applied in content-based image retrieval to significantly improve retrieval performance. One major difficulty in relevance feedback is to estimate the support of target images in high dimensional feature space with a relatively small number of training samples. In this paper, we develop a novel scheme based on oneclass SVM, which fits a tight hyper-sphere in the nonlinearly transformed feature space to include most of the target images based on the positive examples. The use of kernel provides us an elegant way to deal with nonlinearity in the distribution of the target images, while the regularization term in SVM provides good generalization ability. To validate the efficacy of the proposed approach, we test it on both synthesized data and real-world images. Promising results are achieved in both cases.

Learning in Region-Based Image Retrieval
In this paper, several effective learning algorithms using global image representations are adjusted and introduced to region-based image retrieval (RBIR). First, the query point movement technique is considered. By assembling all the segmented regions of positive examples together and resizing the regions to emphasize the latest positive examples, a composite image is formed as the new query. ...
متن کاملRegion-Based Image Clustering and Retrieval Using Multiple Instance Learning
Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) is a special kind of supervised learning problem that has been studied actively in recent years. We propose an approach based on One-Class Support Vector Machine (SVM) to solve MIL problem in the region-based Content Based Image Retrieval (CBIR). This is an area where a huge number of image regions are involved. For the sake of efficiency, we adopt a Genetic Alg...
متن کاملImproving Relevance Feedback in Image Retrieval by Incorporating Unlabelled Images
In content-base image retrieval, relevance feedback (RF) schemes based on support vector machine (SVM) have been widely used to narrow the semantic gap between low-level visual features and high-level human perception. However, the performance of image retrieval with SVM active learning is known to be poor when the training data is insufficient. In this paper, the problem is solved by incorpora...
متن کاملSupervised Machine Learning based Medical Image Annotation and Retrieval
This paper presents the approaches and experimental results of image annotation and retrieval in our first participation of ImageCLEFmed 2005. In this work, we investigate a supervised learning approach to associate low-level global image features with their high level visual and/or semantic categories for image annotation and retrieval. For automatic image annotation, we represent input images...
متن کاملImproving the Initial Image Retrieval Set by Inter-Query Learning with One-Class SVMs
Relevance Feedback attempts to reduce the semantic gap between a user’s perception of similarity and a feature-based representation of an image by asking the user to provide feedback regarding the relevance or non-relevance of the retrieved images. This is intra-query learning. However, in most current systems, all prior experience is lost whenever a user generates a new query thus inter-query ...
متن کاملImage Retrieval with Structured Object Queries Using Latent Ranking SVM
We consider image retrieval with structured object queries – queries that specify the objects that should be present in the scene, and their spatial relations. An example of such queries is “car on the road”. Existing image retrieval systems typically consider queries consisting of object classes (i.e. keywords). They train a separate classifier for each object class and combine the output heur...
